Tooth decay is the single most chronic common childhood disease and 90% of it is preventable! Our office, as well as the the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) and the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry (AAPD) recommends that a child see a dentist by his or her first birthday. This rarely happens. Our goal is to educate parents so that they start regular dental visits early. To help in this effort, we have decided to remove as many barriers to bringing children to the dentist for the first time at an appropriate age by offering First Smiles.
The initial visit will include a comprehensive exam (tongue, throat, gums, teeth, complete cavity check), cleaning and fluoride treatment (behavior permitting), x-ray (if needed), oral hygiene instruction, nutrition counseling and toothbrushing.
This visit gives us the opportunity to have that all important conversation with the family about tooth development, good nutrition, hygiene and what to expect in the months and years ahead.
